     I have a question for you people who think spam is harmless..
     My 14 year old daughter has been getting spam on her account(AOL),
     for pornographic sites. Sure I can delete it, but will she? No credit
     card or age check is needed to view many sample pictures, (I have been
     told :) Does anyone have an answer?

I agree with Cheryl that autoresponders are powerful.  Often, when
people are searching for information, they want high quality content as
fast as possible.  Through an autoresponder, you can build an E-Mail
address database of persons interested in your area of specialty.   By
combining content-rich, hype-free information in a free autoresponder
report, you can provide a basis from which to make sales.

I highly recommend Mailback's autoresponders.  I've used two of them for
about 3 months now.  While they aren't as inexpensive as those Cheryl
listed, I combined two discounts upon initiation of my service and I am
extremely satisfied with round the clock service for about a penny per

During my research on autoresponders, I found that Mailback has several
features some other autoresponder services don't have.  Here are just a

 1.  No requirements for commands in the Subject line or
     the body of requesters' E-Mail messages.
 2.  No limit on E-Mail *address* length or *size*.
 3.  No long-term commitments required (although their discounts
     for longevity and multiple autoresponders are substantial).
 4.  No limit on the number of E-Mails handled.
 5.  Unlimited numbers of changes at *no* additional cost.

The customer service from Mailback is terrific; turnaround time on
responses to my E-Mail is always less than one day, and is generally
just a few hours.

Bulk Email, Autoresponders, ads

Targeted email to people that want to hear your message is the most
successful way to market on the Internet. Bulk email gives the small guy
a chance to compete on a level playing field with the big companies. I'm
not talking about SPAM.

The problem I see often is many people feel that if it's worth doing
it's worth overdoing. Don't send out more email that you can respond to,
and don't send it to people who will not be interested.  Target your

I have success with bulk email without any flames with an ISP that will
not tolerate SPAM.  I do this by offering useful free marketing
information to people who subscribe to my mailings.  If your email is
90% useful information people will respond.

Folks that are new to marketing on the Internet are overcome with the
size of the potential audience and want to reach them all at once. The
old timers do it the old fashioned way - One customer at a time.

Do you respond to form letters? I don't use autoresponders. I have
prepared messages but I take the time to personalize each response so
that I can respond directly to the PERSON.  I find this works best for
me.  It's not the number of people you reach that's important, it's more
important that you respond in a way that resolves some concern.

I don't accept advertizing in my newsletter or my web site.  I find that
if people are given useful information they will respond to the source
of that information, this works better than advertizing.  Now my mailbox
is filled with useful articles about marketing on the Internet. I
publish the most concise information in the newsletter.

Internet Privacy issues.

The FTC junk email forum will be cybercast live at You
