Hi Everyone,

Happy Monday. This week's issue carries some great stuff and
some more requests for help in the eMD Member to Member section.
Rather than comment too much here I'll just let it flow on its
own power - besides, this leaves me more time to make next week's
issue great!

Befeore we get to that, there is a recent study by the Gartner
Group that found online retailers 12 times more likely to
experience credit card fraud than offline retailers. On top of
that online retailers are bearing greater responsibility for
covering the costs and absorbing the losses involved in credit
card fraud than their offline counterparts.

Here's the URL to a link to the article. I'd include the
original link here but its too long to put into less than three
lines so this is simpler. Go here and click on the link that
reads, 'Click Me';
http://www.webbers.com/emark/transientlink.html

As always, please take the time to visit this issue's sponsor,
"Domain Hosting $14.50", as it is our advertisers who keep the
eMD a free resource. You may follow links to our sponsors from
their links in each issue of the eMD, or from our Sponsor
Resources web page located at;
http://www.webbers.com/emark/sponsors.html

Finally, please forward this issue of the eMD on to your friends
and business associates to help us build our membership.

Now let's get marketing...

GKF, Ed.

*** Offline Internet Marketing

Hi Everyone,

Last issue Marlo Simon posted from Brazil;

-----
Our way of building traffic is to make our costumers
pay attention to the traditional media advertisers.

Why is this happening here?
or Is this happening anywhere else?

I am drived to think that our marketing agencies
arenīt changing to on-line topics, they are doing old
fashion marketing at the new economy.
-----

Marlo, I agree with you. Many traditional ad and marketing
agencies are still practicing 'traditional' methods in a new
medium. They seem to miss the idea that traditional media can be
made to support online business not only by directing customers
to websited for complete info, but also by reinforcing branding.

One of Webbers Communications clients sells pre-written column
advertising. Purchasers of these column ads then have the rights
to publish these column ads as their own copy in newspapers and
magazines, with their own picture and byline included. The end
result is to position the advertiser, or 'brand' them as the
local leader in their field of expertise. Our client has a
number of professions already written and is contemplating
widening the scope of his offerings to include other
professions/business types. These column ads have been very
successful and have been sold to many professionals across the
US.

See the supporting site at: http://www.columnadvertising.com

Is this branding? You bet. Branding of a most direct variety.
Its hard to accomplish branding online, so offline media support
is imperative.

What other ends can be accomplished using offline advertising to
support online business? Anyone want to jump in here?

eMarketing as Recruitment Tool
by Tracy Morris

Hello and thank you for allowing me to join the E-Marketing
Digest. I am the Faculty Development Coordinator at Learning
Tree University (LTU). We specialize in professional continuing
education and are currently offering and E-Marketing program at
our Irvine, Chatsworth, Thousand Oaks campuses (all in
California) as well as our On-Line University.

I am particularly interested in improving my skills in E-
Marketing to attract new instructors to LTU. How can I
successfully accomplish (or even begin) faculty recruitment via
the internet. I have done some on-line postings, but I feel like
I need to map out more of a strategic plan. Any suggestions? I
think we have a wonderful opportunity for E-Marketing
professionals, but how do I effectively convey that?

Thanks,

Tracy Morris Faculty Development Coordinator

Matching email addys to snail-mail addys
by Kevin Gruys

I was wondering if you know of a company that can take our data
base of names and mailing address and do a reverse to match them
with an email data base. We only have the phsyical street
addresses. I was told there was a company that could take the
name and physical street address and match it against an email
data base.

Newsgroups?
by Barb Koning

Since I am new to this, basic 101 step by step on how to find
newsgroups.

Barb

[Editor's Response]

Hi Barb,

You might try contacting your ISP [local dialup company] and ask
them. ISPs usually subscribe to a newsgroup 'feed' that they
pass along to their customers.

Innovative Marketing Ideas
Rick Guerrero

We're a small company that manufactures general use accounting
software for small/medium sized businesses (similar to AccPac
MAS90 Peachtree). We're trying to let the small/medium business
community know we and our product exist. Like many small
developers we have little to no money for marketing, so we're
looking for innovated ways (via the Internet) by which we can
accomplish this. All suggestions would be appreciated.
